Meet Kyle.

I am Kyle Johnston and I’m running to be your candidate for Red Deer-South in the upcoming provincial election. I have lived in Red Deer-South my whole life and am extremely passionate about our community and helping to improve the lives of Red Deerians. I currently live with my fiancé in the beautiful neighbourhood of West Park, where I also happened to grow up. Outside of work I love to spend time with my niece and nephew, play hockey and slow pitch, and get my hands dirty completing various DIY projects around the house. 

I have worked as a Network Technician in telecommunications for almost 14 years, in three different departments, which takes me to cities and towns all over our great province. I am the Unit Chair for my local union — the United Steelworkers National Local 1944: Unit 205 — where I am a Shop Steward and sit on our NextGen committee. I am the current President of the Red Deer and District Labour Council which represents over 7000 unionized workers in many sectors of our community. Through the Labour Council I enjoy taking part in and volunteering at many community events which help to improve this great city that our members live, work, and play in, by advancing the economic and social welfare of all workers. I have also been active on many political campaigns in Red Deer over the years and served on Alberta’s NDP Executive Council as one of Central Alberta’s Vice Presidents.

Through my union and political activism I have been able to build relationships with many different individuals and community groups. These relationships are a key asset to help win Red Deer-South in the next election and to improve lives within our community. I am passionate about both advancing and protecting our public education and healthcare systems, which also ties into my passion for labour and the betterment of working conditions for all workers. Red Deer-South truly is home for me and I am excited about this community. I see the potential for this great city that, for many, is just a stop at Gasoline Alley between Calgary and Edmonton. I know it to be so much more than that. Our city has a promising future with assets such as RDP and all of our amazing constituents. I strongly believe we can turn Red Deer-South orange again with our abundance of eager volunteers and of course, with a solid candidate at the helm. Over the years, I have put in the work for this constituency and will continue to do so should you choose to elect me as your nominated candidate for Red Deer-South.
